Accelerating climate action

Strong targets for 2030 and 2035

Targets that help reduce climate pollution before it’s too late and replace the 90% of coal-fired power due to retire in the next decade.

Energy bill relief

An Energy Bill Relief Plan to help 800,000 households with support for home batteries, rooftop solar, and energy upgrades.

Climate Change| *Accelerating* climate action

Delivered

We’ve made progress to help protect our environment for future generations. We're on track for 43% emissions reduction by 2030 and our electricity system is now around 40% renewables. I’m proud to have helped deliver:

  • [/] Stronger climate legislation – with tougher laws to crack down on pollution from Australia’s biggest emitters.
  • [/] Efficiency standards for new vehiclesto cut new car emissions by 60% by 2030, lower fuel bills by up to $1,000, and boost EV take-up.
  • [/] More action on nature protection including increased investment via a new Nature Repair Market, stopping fossil fuel exploration at PEP-11, and properly assessing big projects’ impact on water resources.

You can learn about how I'm delivering for Wentworth here.

Future Plans

But there’s still a long way to go and we are not moving fast enough. That’s why I want to:

  • Accelerate the clean energy roll-out – to replace our ageing and unreliable coal plants, and beat our 2030 target of 43% emissions reduction.
  • Set an ambitious but achievable goal of up to 75% emissions reduction by 2035in line with the advice from the Climate Change Authority.
  • Deliver my Permanent Energy Bill Relief Plan – which would help over 800,000 households lower their power bills for good with support for home batteries, rooftop solar, and home energy upgrades. Read more here.
  • Seize Australia’s superpower potentialby speeding up clean energy approvals and creating the jobs and industries of the future.
  • Get serious about nature protectionby fixing our broken environmental laws, ending native forest logging, and establishing an independent Environment Protection Authority.
