Allegra Spender and Professor John Daley AM discussed why tax is central to the biggest issues we’re facing as a country and why we need reform.

From cost-of-living, to intergenerational equity, to business productivity and climate change, tax is too important to be left in the “too hard” basket.

We held an interactive workshop to share the facts and get community feedback ahead of the publication of Allegra’s Tax Green Paper later this year.

John Daley is one of Australia’s leading public policy thinkers. He was the founding Chief Executive of the Grattan Institute from 2009 to 2020, personally authoring over 20 leading reports on topics including institutional, economic, tax, budget and energy policy reform.

John is now an independent strategy consultant, Chair of the Australian National Academy of Music, and a Trustee of the Helen Macpherson Smith Trust.

Previously John was a partner at EY Port Jackson Partners, Group General Manager of Strategy at ANZ Bank, Managing Director of E*TRADE Australia, and also worked at McKinsey, the Melbourne University, Oxford University, and the Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet.
