Hi Allegra,
Having great public education is so important to our community.
But there’s a real lack of choice in Wentworth.
Around 50% of our kids go to public primary schools, but only 20% go to public high schools.
That’s despite 74% of people saying in a recent survey by CLOSEast that a co-ed public high school was their preferred choice of education.
When I talk to young families, many of them are struggling with high private school fees and some are even thinking of moving out of the area just to access public education.
That’s why we need to take action.

Since you elected me as your independent MP, I’ve been working with groups like CLOSEast and state MP Alex Greenwich to improve public education in the east.
We have had some wins, like a $40 million investment into Randwick Boys and Girls High School to make it a co-ed high school.
But despite a lot of lobbying, we haven’t yet secured a commitment from the State government to build a new public high school in the east in the medium-term.

There aren't many viable sites in the east for a public high school because it is such a crowded area. But the Edgecliff Centre is one of them. It is central, has great access to public transport and green spaces and it is currently up for redevelopment.
I've been working with an architect to come up with plans on what a public high school could look like there - and it would be pretty special.
But time is running out.
The owners have already lodged a different development application for the site, so this opportunity might not be around for long.
That’s why I need your help.
